Commercial heating and ventilation specialists Lord Combustion Services have won a leading service business award in recognition of their high standards over the past 12 months.

As the Oldbury-based company prepares to mark its 40th anniversary, they won the award at the 2021 Black Country Chamber of Commerce Awards for their achievements during the Covid-19 pandemic and successive lockdowns, as well as the later easing of restrictions.

The 2021 Chamber of Commerce Awards celebrated the achievements of the region’s businesses “as they have attempted to reboot, rebuild, and rebound” from the pandemic. Lord were finalists in five categories, taking home two awards when the winners were announced at Wolverhampton Racecourse.

Operating since 1982, Lord serves more than 1000 customers each year across the West Midlands, all from their base in Dudley Road East, Oldbury.

For the service business win, the citation said: “Led by Stuart Smith, the judges felt the company had demonstrated great client focus, innovation and employee attentiveness during the pandemic as they worked tirelessly to maintain and service many key sites such as hospitals and care homes to ensure they could stay open safely during the pandemic.

“The judges were further impressed by Lord’s contribution to the community including their role as STEM ambassadors, work with the Armed Forces Covenant and work to help their customers get to net zero.”

The award was one of three wins in a single night for Lord. Emma Tibbetts was named director of the year and the company won the sustainability trophy at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards, organised by regional news website Business Desk, all held on Thursday November 11.

Managing Director Stuart Smith said the service award win was pleasing given the efforts made by the team. He said: “Lord has always worked hard to prioritise customer service so it is fantastic to have our work recognised by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce after the Covid-19 pandemic tested us like no other time in our history.

“We work closely as a team so we are pleased to see our achievements endorsed with the service business award win. I am grateful to every member of the team for their support in winning these awards.

“As a Black Country-based business with a reach across the West Midlands it means a lot to see our work recognised by the Chamber of Commerce for our region.”
