Commercial heating and ventilation specialist Lord Combustion Services has been named as a finalist at the Black Country Heroes awards.
The Oldbury-based sector-leading business has made the shortlist in the Community Champion category at the awards, which are hosted by the Express & Star.
The Black Country Heroes awards, which will take place on 26 September, celebrate the remarkable individuals who make the region special. The awards evening will showcase the achievements of nominees and celebrate the Black Country’s rich history and bright future.
Launched in 1982, the Lord team of nearly 50 staff serve customers across the West Midlands from their HQ in Dudley Road East, Oldbury.
Managing Director Stuart Smith said: “All of our work in the community has been a big team effort, so thank you to everyone who has played their part. It means a great deal to be recognised at these awards.
“We are proud to be based in the Black Country and are committed to making a difference across our region by supporting a wide range of community groups, charities and organisations. We look forward to supporting even more good causes in the future.”
The finalist placing recognises Lord’s outstanding contribution to the community over the past 12 months.
This year Lord funded a new Toyota Yaris for West Midlands Air Ambulance so that the organisation can continue to receive blood products for its lifesaving service. In its first three months the blood delivery vehicle made more than 60 round trips from Strensham Airbase to the blood bank at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and three patients received lifesaving blood delivered by the car.
Earlier this year Lord also became a corporate partner for Black Country mental health charity Kaleidoscope Plus Group, backing a campaign to address the stigma of suicide.
The company has helped a school academy trust raise more than £20,000 and funded 100 hot meals for elderly members of the community in Smethwick over the Christmas period.
Lord has been recognised as a leading Black Country business several times over the past three years. In 2023 the company won the Outstanding Support for the Armed Forces prize at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for its work providing job opportunities for service personnel.
In 2021 it scooped two top prizes at the Black Country Chamber of Commerce Business Awards, as well as the Sustainability Award at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards.
