Leading commercial heating and ventilation specialists Lord Combustion Services have showcased their award-winning work for education sites at the Schools & Academies Show for the first time.

Lord Combustion Services engaged with school leaders and senior decision makers on the company’s impact on sustainability and ways of tackling the energy crisis when the team made their debut at the Schools & Academies Show Birmingham at the NEC on Thursday (17 Nov).

The stand at the Schools & Academies Show showcased the successful projects delivered by Lord Combustion Services for junior and secondary schools, including the modernisation of heating and hot water systems.

Visitors to the Schools & Academies Show stand were able to speak to Lord representatives to find out how the company has won awards for its work on reducing clients’ environmental impact, including the impact it has made at education sites on improving efficiency over energy usage.

Having celebrated Lord’s 40th anniversary this year, the company now has a team of 45 engineers and support staff, who support more than 1000 sites across the Midlands, including 300 schools and hundreds of health sites.

Modernised systems

Delegates had the chance to meet the Lord brand ambassador Luna the barn owl, courtesy of her handlers from Nature’s Burrow Animal Encounters, who assisted at the event. Visitors could also enter a draw to win one of two luxury hampers.

Lord outlined how engineers modernised the system at a West Midlands co-educational secondary school and sixth form, which has capacity for more than 1000 pupils and needed specialist expertise to retro-fit a new system around their timetable and to a high standard of work.

Lord introduced a modern, energy efficient heating system, utilising air source heat pumps to bring the site up to date and replace a set-up which had been in place for more than 30 years.

Last year Streetsbrook Infant & Early Years Academy in Solihull brought in Lord to refurbish their heating and hot water system, resulting in a successful installation giving greater control and zonal optimisation.

Managing Director Stuart Smith said the Lord team were pleased to join the list of exhibitors for the Schools & Academies Show, which organisers claim attracts the most “senior audience of school leaders, decision makers and innovative education suppliers” of industry events in the UK.

Stuart said: “As a trusted partner to education sites across the UK, the Lord team were delighted to present our work at the Schools & Academies Show to promote our success stories as a trusted education supplier and open new conversations for future work.

“Over the last 40 years, Lord Combustion Services has a proud history of serving school sites across the West Midlands so we look forward to working with new partners in the future.”

Operating from its base in Dudley Road East, Oldbury, Lord has increased its green credentials by signing up to the West Midlands Net Zero Pledge when Mayor Andy Street visited in April.

Lord won three awards last November, including the sustainability trophy at the West Midlands Business Masters Awards for the impact made by its environmental work at schools and Edgbaston Stadium.
